Adult Basic Literacy Education (ABLE) Classes

Our small group classes, begun in 2003, continue to grow. We now offer 15 classes a week. For adults who want to learn in a small group, ABLE classes help with:

  • Sounding out words--phonics
  and vocabulary building

  • Reading with understanding

  • Spelling and writing

  • Life skills reading--bus maps,
  pill bottles, bills, etc.

  • Consumer math

  • Basic computer skills

Most learners take small-group classes in conjunction with one-to-one tutoring. After learners have demonstrated commitment to the program by attending classes for a month, they are eligible for tutoring.

Classes take place throughout the week at the following locations:

1330 Apartment Complex     Edgewood Terrace Wardman Court
1330 7th Street, NW 635 Edgewood Street, NE   2501 14th Street, NW
