Adult Basic Literacy Education (ABLE) Classes
Our small group classes, which began in 2003, continue to grow. We now offer 15 classes a week. For adults who want to learn in a small group, ABLE classes help with:
- Sounding out words--phonics
and vocabulary building
- Reading with understanding
- Life skills reading--bus maps,
pill bottles, bills, etc.
Most learners take small-group classes in conjunction with one-to-one tutoring. After learners have demonstrated commitment to the program by attending classes for a month, they are eligible for tutoring.
Classes take place throughout the week at the following locations:

Edgewood Terrace at 635 Edgewood Street NE, Washington, DC 20017
Wardman Court at 1350 Clifton Street NW, Washington, DC 20009
