Volunteer

Volunteers are the cornerstone of our services. Our organization would not exist without the gifts of time, services, and advocacy we receive from the community.

We invite you to donate to LVA or become a tutor. We also would welcome your help in any of these areas:

Volunteer Opportunity Responsibility Training Commitment Location
One-to-One Tutoring Meet with an adult learner to help him or her meet their personal, educational, and work-related goals. Basic Literacy Workshop 2 hours once a week (flexible days and times.) One year. Submit a monthly update (hours/progress). Pairs will identify a mutually convenient meeting place, such as a library, office building, or church.
Teacher’s Aide Support instructors during day and evening classes. Basic Literacy Workshop 1-2 times per week for 2 hours each class for 6-week sessions. Class locations throughout D.C.
Volunteer Supporter From the office, place personnel calls to tutors to ensure they are still working with learners and to collect information. Orientation Once every three months (flexible schedule) LVA Office
Learner Supporters From the office, place personnel calls to learners to ensure they are still working with tutors and to collect information. Orientation Once every three months (flexible schedule) LVA Office
